Make room for a walk or a workout, then get your living room back. Choose around when you'll use the gear: during desk work, in a corner that can stay ready, or in a separate session after work. These picks solve different versions of that problem.
Choose your routine
- Walk while working, then clear the room
- Keep a walking corner ready
- Set aside time for rowing
- Put away a small strength kit
Walk during the workday, then put the pad away
The WalkingPad C2 is the pick to consider when you have a compatible standing desk and want the floor back after work. Its deck folds in half, so it can share a room more readily than a pad that stays full length.
Check where it will go before buying. WalkingPad's published US dimensions are 56.9 x 20.4 inches open and 32.5 x 20.4 x 5.4 inches folded. It still needs its full opened length while you walk, plus the exercise clearances in your unit's manual.
The manufacturer-linked UK manual prohibits vertical and lateral placement and specifies rear and side clearances. We haven't established those as US instructions. Plan for flat storage and confirm the supplied manual; don't buy it assuming you can stand it in a closet. The folding hinge is also a trade-off to consider in the C2 review.
WHEN FOLDED STORAGE MATTERS
WalkingPad C2 Foldable Walking Pad Treadmill
The C2 folds 180 degrees down the middle to a 33-inch length and 5-inch height, making it the only widely-available walking pad that fits a standard closet or car trunk. At 55 lbs with built-in transport wheels, it is genuinely portable, and the KS Fit app adds step goals and remote speed control.
Best for: Small-space and apartment users who need a walking pad that genuinely disappears into a closet or under a sofa when not in use.
- Folds to 33 inches long and 5 inches tall, the only compact walker that fits a standard closet or apartment storage
- 55 lbs with transport wheels: easy to move between rooms or take to a second location
- 220 lb weight limit is the lowest in this comparison, and owners near that limit report reduced belt stability

Keep a walking corner ready
The MERACH W50 makes more sense when you can leave a pad ready for the next walk. Its incline gives you an option beyond flat walking, without folding and reopening a deck between sessions. That suits a permanent corner better than a living room you must clear nightly.
It doesn't fold. The US page gives 50.2 x 22.2 inches and 69.2 lb, so work out the moving route if it won't stay in place.
US upright-storage instructions remain unresolved. MERACH's US page promotes vertical storage, but the MR-T25 EU manual linked under W50 in its UK directory forbids it. That manual has different electrical-region and weight details. Ask MERACH for your exact US unit's approved instructions before buying if upright storage is essential.
FOR A DEDICATED WALKING SPOT
MERACH W50 Walking Pad with 12% Auto Incline
The MERACH W50 is built for users who want more than flat walking: a motorized 0 to 12% incline, a 400 lb weight capacity, and a brushless motor rated 1.25 HP continuous and 3.5 HP peak. MERACH quotes both 25 dB and 40 dB for noise on the same product page. The 16.5 x 41.3-inch belt is spacious for a walking pad, and the unit is rated for up to 10 continuous hours of use.
Best for: Standing-desk users who want incline training throughout the workday, heavier users over 250 lbs who need a confidence-inspiring deck, or anyone running a home office where the pad stays in place permanently.
- Motorized 0 to 12% incline plus a wider 16.5-inch belt and a 10-hour continuous-use rating, the only continuous-use figure published among these pads
- 400 lb weight capacity: the most headroom for heavier users or all-day office deployment
- No fold-flat storage: at 50.2 inches long and 69.2 lb, this unit lives under a standing desk and does not move easily between rooms

Make room for dedicated rowing sessions
Choose the Concept2 RowErg when you want a separate rowing session and will use its performance monitor. It separates into two pieces afterward, but the rail needs its full length during every session. Think through the fan sound, too, if someone else will be watching TV nearby.
Lay out the full manual area before buying. Concept2's revision 1024 manual shows a 4 x 9 foot training area (36 sq ft) within a 6 x 11 foot free area (66 sq ft). Follow the complete layout and clearance guidance, including access, rather than measuring only the machine.
The published two-piece storage envelope is 25 x 33 inches. The manual prohibits standing the assembled rower on end, so putting it away means separating it as instructed.
FOR DEDICATED ROWING SESSIONS
Concept2 RowErg Indoor Rowing Machine
The Concept2 RowErg is the benchmark for indoor rowing, used by Olympic teams and CrossFit facilities worldwide. Air resistance self-adjusts to effort level, so the harder you pull, the more resistance you feel, with no resistance cap for elite athletes.
Best for: Anyone who wants a proven, maintenance-tolerant machine that performs at every fitness level and holds resale value for years.
- Exceptional 500 lb weight capacity and commercial-grade durability at a sub-$1,000 price
- PM5 monitor tracks pace, watts, calories, and heart rate; connects via Bluetooth to apps like ErgData and the Concept2 Logbook
- Hard plastic seat becomes uncomfortable for sessions over 30 minutes without a seat pad

Keep a strength kit beside the sofa
For strength work, choose weights you can store nearby and clear the floor when it's time to use them. Our adjustable versus fixed dumbbell comparison helps with that choice; the adjustable dumbbell guide covers existing picks.
Add a bench when you need its supported positions and have room to use it. The weight-bench guide covers folding and permanent options. Let the budget home-gym guide help you buy in phases. For bodyweight work, start with the home calisthenics kit.
Check the room before you order
- Use and storage: mark the opened equipment, required exercise clearances and the place it will go afterward.
- Everyday access: leave doors and shared routes clear while another person is home.
- Sound and floor: consider motor or fan sound, footsteps and weights separately. A mat doesn't guarantee soundproofing.
- Delivery and setup: check the delivery route, moving instructions and manual requirements for outlets, cords, children and pets.
- Anchors: if strength gear needs a doorway or wall, use the pull-up-bar safety guide or suspension-trainer anchor guide before choosing it.
What the dimensions tell us
A machine's rectangle, its stored rectangle and its exercise area are different measurements. Here are the original inputs for our four-model comparison. The full space dataset and CSV retain sources, regional differences and unknowns.
| Exact model | Published machine length x width | Calculated machine rectangle | Published storage configuration | Calculated storage rectangle |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| UREVO Strol 2E Pro, handlebar up | 42.5 x 21.9 in | 6.46 sq ft | Separate folded dimensions not established from the manufacturer | Unknown |
| MERACH NovaWalk W50 TrekPad, US | 50.2 x 22.2 in | 7.74 sq ft | Approved US stowed dimensions not established | Unknown |
| WalkingPad C2, US | 56.9 x 20.4 in | 8.06 sq ft | Folded flat, 32.5 x 20.4 in | 4.60 sq ft |
| Concept2 RowErg, standard legs | 96 x 24 in | 16.00 sq ft | Separated into two pieces, 25 x 33 in envelope | 5.73 sq ft |
We calculate rectangle area as length times width divided by 144, rounded to two decimals. These are bounding rectangles, not floor-contact measurements or minimum exercise areas. The UREVO dimensions describe the handlebar-up configuration; separate manufacturer storage dimensions remain unestablished.
C2: less floor to store it, not less floor to walk
Using the unrounded inputs, (56.9 x 20.4 - 32.5 x 20.4) / (56.9 x 20.4) x 100 = 42.9% storage-area savings, rounded to one decimal. The US page's height rises from 4.9 inches open to 5.4 inches folded. Check the gap under furniture.
The C2 has the largest opened machine rectangle of the three pads here. Folding is its storage advantage.
RowErg: the machine rectangle isn't the training area
The RowErg's 96 x 24 inch machine rectangle is 16.00 sq ft. Its 36 sq ft training area is 2.25 times that rectangle. The manual's 66 sq ft free area is larger again; the training rectangle alone isn't the complete layout.
Regional source conflicts also matter. The W50's US and EU storage guidance differs. The C2's UK manual and US page differ in weight and height details, so we haven't converted UK clearances into a US exercise-area claim. Follow the instructions for your exact unit.
How we made this comparison
We used exact-model manufacturer specifications and calculated the rectangles ourselves. This is a small comparison, not a survey of all indoor gear. We haven't physically tested these machines, measured apartment noise or assessed your floor. Our recommendations concern room fit and routine; they don't promise fitness results. Unknown specifications remain unknown.

Frequently asked questions
What is the best fitness equipment for a small apartment?
Choose for the routine: a folding pad for desk walking and flat storage, a permanent pad for a walking corner, or a rower when its full manual area fits. For strength, compact weights can share a cleared floor.
Does a folding walking pad need less room during use?
Folding changes storage. The opened deck and required exercise clearances still need to fit. Some models fold only the handlebar, so check which dimensions the listing describes.
Do I need equipment to exercise indoors in winter?
No. Our indoor walking plan offers equipment-free options. Buy gear when it makes the routine you want practical in your room.
