How we research & rate
We’re upfront about how every recommendation is made. Most of the catalog is research-led, while products we physically use are clearly labeled as hands-on. Both tracks feed the same transparent Kit Score, and we never claim direct experience we do not have.
Researched
Most of our catalog. We do not claim to have physically tested these, and we never will pretend to. Instead we aggregate manufacturer specs, verified-owner reviews across retailers, expert publications, and community discussion into a single, transparent Kit Score. It’s honest research, clearly labeled as research.
Hands-on
When we receive or purchase a product for direct use, the page says so. Hands-on coverage adds original setup and use observations, photography, and video where useful. We still cross-check current specifications, owner feedback, and comparable products so one sample does not become the entire evidence base. Supplied and loaned products are disclosed.
The Kit Score
Every rated product gets a composite score from 0–10, computed from four weighted dimensions. The composite is derived from the breakdown by a formula, never hand-picked, so scores stay reproducible and comparable across the catalog.
