Top picks
The LEKI Legacy Lite is a comfort-led aluminum pole rather than an ultralight one. Its EVOCON CorTec grip contains 80% natural cork, the external Speed Lock Plus system adjusts without twisting shaft sections, and LEKI covers shaft breakage for the product's lifetime.
BEST CORK GRIP
LEKI Legacy Lite Trekking Poles
Best for: Day hikers and backpackers who prioritize a cork-rich grip and long-term shaft coverage over compact packing.
Kit Score 8.5/10 · $100–$150
- Cork composite grip wicks moisture and stays comfortable across full hiking days
- Speed Lock+ adjusters are intuitive and field-serviceable without tools
- Grip circumference runs smaller than average, less comfortable for larger hands
Who it is for
Legacy Lite suits hikers whose hands spend full days on the grips. The rounded EVOCON shape spreads contact across the palm, while the adjustable strap supports a relaxed hand instead of forcing a constant squeeze.
The current Amazon ASIN is the 100–135 cm version. LEKI also makes a 90–125 cm size, previously called Lhasa, for shorter users. Buy the range that centers your normal level-ground length rather than assuming one size fits everyone.

What the extra money buys
The CorTec grip is the main upgrade. Cork does not make a pole safer or lighter, but it changes the feel during long climbs and warm days. LEKI combines the cork content with softer material around the grip, so this is not a raw cork handle that will crumble after a wet weekend.
The warranty is the second distinction. It covers shaft breakage, not every basket, tip, strap, or cosmetic issue. Still, shafts are the expensive structural part, and explicit lifetime coverage is more valuable than vague durability language.
Where Trail Back is better
Black Diamond offers a wider 100–140 cm range and a lower current Amazon price. Trail Back also includes snow baskets. The LEKI is marginally lighter on the manufacturers' listed figures, but neither belongs in an ultralight category.
The detailed tradeoff is in LEKI Legacy Lite vs Black Diamond Trail Back. Choose the grip and fit you will use, not the logo.
Frequently asked questions
Is the LEKI Legacy Lite grip real cork?
LEKI describes CorTec as a grip containing 80% natural cork combined with softer supporting material. It provides a cork contact surface without being a solid cork block.
What is the difference between Legacy Lite sizes?
The standard current model adjusts from 100 to 135 cm and packs to 66 cm. The shorter model adjusts from 90 to 125 cm and packs to 64 cm. The shorter version also weighs 240 g per pole instead of 251 g.
Does LEKI's lifetime warranty cover the whole pole?
LEKI advertises a lifetime warranty on shaft breakage. That should not be read as lifetime coverage for normal wear on straps, tips, baskets, or every lock component.
