Plan your ride or walk

The Palatka-to-Lake Butler State Trail is one of Florida's longest uninterrupted paved rail-trails, stretching 47 miles through the quiet interior of north-central Florida. The route passes pine flatwoods, cattle pastures, cypress swamps, and small crossroads communities from Palatka on the St. Johns River westward to Lake Butler in Union County. Because the corridor is largely rural and flat, it suits long steady rides and extended walks equally well. Wildlife sightings along the way commonly include sandhill cranes, white-tailed deer, and a variety of wading birds. A Florida State Trail Pass is not required, and parking is available at trailheads in Palatka, Florahome, Keystone Heights, and Lake Butler.

Getting there

The eastern trailhead is in Palatka, roughly 70 miles southwest of Jacksonville via US 17. Parking is available at the Palatka trailhead near the St. Johns River waterfront. Additional access points with parking are at Florahome and Keystone Heights along the trail corridor.
