Field briefing

Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument changes fast with season and elevation.

Before you go

Salinas Pueblo Missions is one monument made of three separate sites scattered across the high plains southeast of Albuquerque: Abo, Quarai, and Gran Quivira.

Each preserves the ruins of a 17th-century Spanish mission church built beside an ancestral Pueblo village, and all three are free to visit, with a main visitor center in the town of Mountainair. There are no reservations or fees, so the planning is logistical: the three sites are spread out and require real driving time between them, so decide whether you want a half day for the two closest or a full day to see all three.
